United to Reach and Bless Afflicted Neighborhoods
We are an outpost of Light, Peace, and Hope. With God's grace we want to restore people back to love of Christ Acts 26:18 / Rev 21:23
Our prayer is that God would use us to be a bridge to His Son Jesus Christ. “But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, ‘Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.’ ” Mark 10:14
Our calling is that we would be an outpost of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Christ said to bring the children to him, that their hearts would be reconciled to the Father. 2 Corinthians 5:18
Our desire is to plant seeds of hope in the hearts of the inner city youth. “Remember the creator in the days of your youth.” Ecclesiastes 12:1

Day 4 - God's Call You Can't Resist!
2 Chronicles 20:6b Power and might are in your hands, and no one can withstand you.
After playing a game of hangman the kids were given clues to a word (ENEMY). Pastor Dwayne explained that an enemy of God is someone who doesn't love Him. God is bigger than any of His enemies! He read the story of Saul's conversion to Paul. As he was telling the story he was in a way acting it out and when it came to Saul falling to the ground he just told them about it instead of really falling. One of the kids was kind enough to dramatically fall to the ground for Pastor Dwayne. It was so funny! Then Pastor Dwayne pulled out to large magnets. He showed the kids the pull that they had for one another. He explained that when God calls us we are like this magnet. Nothing that we do can stop Him from calling us to His kingdom.
After the lesson we had an object lesson activity. Tug-o-war! One one side was all of the men leaders and on the other side was various groups of kids. They tried and tried to take down the leaders but just couldn't. After telling them that no matter how hard the enemy tries to take down God there is no way because He is stronger than any one who tries to come against Him, they ALL got to be the "God Squad" and try to take down the men leaders! It was hilarious! Go Kids!
Day 3 - God's Call
Isaiah 55:3a Give ear and come to me; hear me; that your soul may live. This was the memory verse for the day. It has been such a blessing to see the wisdom that the Lord has given these kids. They are learning their memory verses each day. Some of the kids pick the verse so quickly.
Pastor Dwayne shared with the kids four ways that the Lord will call you to Him. He encouraged them to ask those people that know Christ questions about who He is and what He has done for them.
~ Through His Word
~ Through the testimony of believers
~ Through questions about who He is
~ Through sin
After that we all had snow cones that were so yummy! God has been merciful to us by making it a bit cooler while we are outside.
Day 2 - God Solved the Sin Problem
Today's key themes are: Everyone is born sinful; no one meets the requirements to be in the family of God. God requires that a person be righteous - pardoned from sin- to become a member of His family. God sent Jesus to free His people from their sin problem so that they can be adopted into the family of God.
Today we had some fun games for the kids to play after the bible lesson. After all the kids lined up they had to meet certain qualifications in order to win a prize. This was a good reminder that without the death of Jesus on the cross, no one would be qualified to be member of the family of God!
After each day all the leaders get together to share praises and prayer for the children that they got to love on for that day. Chris, from Calvary Chapel Aurora, was helping one of the kids, who has been coming to the Sparrows Nest Studies for a few years now. He was helping her color the place-mats that we are making. She told him that she can not use red because it stands for the "Bloods" (a gang). She told him that she was not going to be a gang member because she is a child of God. She is only 7 years old! Praise the Lord for calling her! Pray that the kids will not just hear the gospel but live the gospel.
We are excited to start this years Backyard Bible Club! This year we are doing a VBS called "The Call of God". There is nothing like share the gospel to children for the first time. The hope that they receive through it is such a blessing. Day 1 theme is "Follow Me"... The kids learned the that God is calling His people. Just as God called his disciples in Mark 1: 16 - 20 and Mark 2: 13 - 17, God is calling His people into His family even today. Mr. Dwayne talked to them about the importance of being in the family of God. Also that God comes for those who are sinners. He did not come for the righteous but to save the sinners. No matter how big, strong, pretty, or valuable God can save you. John 1:12 Yet to all that received him, to those who believed in his name, He gave the right to become children of God (memory verse).
We wanted to thank all of you who prayed for our BBC! It was amazing to see Him put together helpers, food, crafts, and most of all the kids! We were blown away by His amazing plans for the week. The amount of love that was poured upon us was overwhelming. Thank you to all of those who drove to the city to be with the kids. Thank you to those who sacrificed family time to be with the family of Christ and for getting up early to go into work so you could get off in time to serve the kids and Christ! We are so thankful to each and everyone of you for your support and love that you have given to this ministry and to our family! By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for our brother. 1John 3:16
Whose side are you on? What a great way to end such an awesome week. "No one can serve two masters." Matthew 6:24a Dwayne shared about the struggles of listening to the right instructions. He asked them questions like: Who were they going to follow? What is the right thing to do? The illustration this day was the parable of the great banquet (Luke 14:16-24). Each of kids got to act out a part. They not only got to hear the parable but they lived it. Pastor Dwayne ended with the question of "Whose side are you on, God or Satan?" and "Who wants to be at the banquet?" We had 3 kids come to the Lord!! It was such a blessing! Please be praying for all of the kids that attended. We want to continue the relationships that we started and build on foundation that has been laid.
This day was our party day! We had a BBQ and a talent show. Each of the small groups had to come up with either a cheer or rap that told about how God always wins! I wish that i could put the video on the blog. The kids were amazing! Even Pastor Dwayne did a rap. You go Dwayne~ We were blessed with a trampoline that we were able to put up on Thursday night for the party today! A friend of ours let us borrow his Snow Cone machine. The kids were in heaven!
As Dwayne was teaching, 30 minutes after he had picked up the kids, we heard what we thought were fireworks going off in the distance. After the day was done and all the BBQ was eaten Dwayne loaded up all of the children from a near by apartment complex in Big Red and started to take them home.As he drove up to the complex there were a handful of cop cars surrounding the complex. The van was able to pull into the driveway of the complex. The parents ran out to the van to let Dwayne know what had happened. There was a gang shooting in the complex and in the park across the street. The parents thanked Dwayne for picking up the kids all week long to take them to the BBC.Ashley Nunez, a good friend of ours, shared with the parents that it was God’s grace that their children were with us. We were all in awe that day after hearing such a story!God has been showing Dwayne to pray for that complex and that particular neighborhood. We are thankful that we serve a God that is all knowing!
God wins in the end - (The Last Battle) Today's object lesson was about how things run out but God never does! Aimee was in charge of the snacks. So on this day she made yummy ice cream sundaes! But the crazy thing was was that everything kept running out. Only one sundae was made with everything but the others had only a few things because she ran out. Nothing on this earth lasts forever - even the earth doesn't last forever.
On the first day of the BBC we gave all the kids a "Trophy Case". In side the case the kids were to draw a picture or write something about what we learned about God and how He always wins. It was so great to see what they wrote or had drawn. Mr. Ashley was in charge of giving each of the kids a "God Trophy" for the day. What a blessing it was to hear each child's heart that they had put down on paper.
God wins over Satan, Death, and sin! Dwayne introduced what sin is and how God has victory over sin! The illustration today was with paddle balls. We had one child up front with a paddle that had a ball and one that was missing the ball. They were to see who could hit the ball the most times. The lesson in this was that there is no way Satan and sin can win against God just like the child with out the ball can not win without a ball. The one lesson that really got the kids attention was a Half and Half carton filled with glue and water to make it look like half and half. Dwayne called to Aimee to get it out of the refrigerator. He shared with the kids that he was thirsty and wanted a nice cold glass of milk. He asked the kids if they would like some too. After pouring it he explained to them what it really was, water down glue! Yuck! He explained that even though something looks good it may not be good and may not be what you thought it was. Sin is a lot like that in the fact that it might look good but it is not good for you and doesn't glorify God. We also had the kids split up into small groups. It was a sweet time of fellowship between the leaders and the kids to go more in depth to the teaching. The activity today was to draw a poster of how they would explain the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ (see pictures) It was so awesome to see how the kids understood what had happened on the cross for their sins.
We also had a HUGE water balloon fight with kids. Pastor Dwayne was the main target and the kids just got a kick out of that! What a great day!
Today's theme is God wins over all gods. Dwayne showed the kids the difference between the little "g" gods in our lives verse the big "G" God that we should be worshiping. Aimee set up a small carnival for the kids with 4 different stations. We had water balloon tossing, penny pitching, wet basketball free throws, and the moving target. We were blessed with lots of help this day. Calvary Chapel Vail Valley brought down some of their Jr. High group, Pastor Tommy and his family, Calvary Chapel South Denver had a few young adults join us, Molly and Tim (Aimee met them through Inner City Christian School), and the Nunez family! We were able to split up into small groups and really see who all of the kids are.
