Whispering Pines Church

We are blessed to have so many awesome and supportive churches that are behind what the Lord is doing here in Denver. On November 9th we were honored to take some of the kids from our ministry up to Coal Creek Canon to visit Whispering Pines Evangelical Free Church, who is one of those awesome supporters. It was so great to watch and listen to the children as we took the drive up the canyon. They were blown away by God's creation and all that was surrounding them. The Sunday that we visited was International Prayer Day. So the children were able to participate in praying for other countries and people. After service we all had a great time hanging out at the church and then we headed to Pastor Brian and Lisa Young's house for a BBQ. It was a huge blessing. Thank you WPC and Pastor Brian for your hospitality to us and "our" children...

Wee Ones for Jesus visit us!

What a blessing! While Dwayne was gone in Africa we were blessed to continue the study with the children. We had 10 - 16 kids each week. This week we were blessed to have Wee Ones For Jesus to come and share their puppets with us. It was awesome to have them set up in our living room and share with the kids the love of Christ and the meaning of obedience to God. The puppets had learned some of the worship songs that we have been singing for worship at study. The kids were so surprise and were excited to get up and dance with them. The children can not wait for Mr. Dwayne to return and they are anxious to find out what it was like in Africa and what the kids there were like...

Pool Party

What a blast! We were blessed to take 19 children to a friend's house for a pool party. We told the children on Friday that we would be picking them up for a private pool party. They could not believe that they were going to be the only ones at the pool. They had a slide and pool all to themselves! We had a Hot Dog BBQ and enjoyed our time away from the city hustle. Pastor Dwayne was the biggest kid in the pool. It was him against all the kids in a water fight. He also had a long line of boys waiting for him to throw them as high and far as possible. It was great to see their huge smiles and hear them laughing. Thank you Randy and Sherri for your hospitality!

Making it their own...

Our home has become a safe pace for many of the kids. We have always wanted them to take ownership in it too. One way that we have had them do this is to help make the landscape look nice. One Saturday A couple came from Vail and helped us get the kids involved with planting flowers and laying sod. The girls came over about 2 hours early for some Girls time and we planted flowers. Kate taught them how to plant and care for the flowers. They each got to take one home and we put out four pot in the front full of beautiful flowers. We also prepared a place for the girls to grow strawberries. Later the boys came over to help Steve with a section of the front yard that needed some sod. He showed them how to do it and let them go for it. Now when they come over they are so excited to see how their hard work is paying off!

Walking Down Romans Road

As we lay down the foundation for the kids that come to our study we have added memory verses for them to know. Not only do they have to memorize them but the have to tell us what they mean to them. What a better place to start but down the Romans Road. One of the girls has taken this so seriously that she has started a journal to write out the scripture and what each verse means and how she can live it out.
We also have started a "Sticker Fun" chart. There are 5 things for sure that will earn them a sticker: Coming to study, Going to church, Participation, Bringing a new friend, and Knowing your memory verse. When they get to 25 stickers they will get an ice cream sundae. But we have told them that you never know when Mr. Dwayne will reward the person with the most stickers... It has been fun to see the smile on their faces when we put a sticker up by their name. They never forget to remind us to do so.

Sparrows Nest - New Faces and food

We have been blessed with new people who have came to love on the kids. We were in need of new cooks to help with the dinners. Some cooks from CC Aurora that have been committed to bring dinner to our house for the kids. The kids are loving the new meals! Ms Aimee's were good but they are liking the new variety.

Christmas / New Years Party

What a great party and a huge blessing! None of the kids knew that we were taking them to a party. When we arrive at Anthony's Pizza and had 9 large pizzas waiting for them, their eyes were huge!! The large pizza measures 24 inches. It was so fun to just hang with the kids and have a good time away from the study. After the pizza party we all went over to Wal-Mart where they had an party for all of us with cake and Ice-Cream. We also got to celebrate Pastor Dwayne's birthday! After cake and ice-cream a family blessed each of the kids and a mom with a $25 gift certificate to spend on what ever they wanted. OH MAN! It was awesome to see the kids with their adult leader. The Lord blessed us to have one leader for every child. It was perfect timing for us to go because all the toys were 40% off! All of the kids "came out" in the end!

Sparrow's Nest Update

We serve a HUGE God who is sovereign and loving!  He has grown the Sparrow’s Nest studies into a sweet time of fellowship, learning more about His book, the Bible!  We have been averaging 12 – 18 kids every Saturday.  The Lord has brought us servants who want to serve Him and love on the kids.  Pastor Larry and Pia Ecton from Calvary Downtown have been faithfully helping us.  We have also had Pastor Lonnie and Dona Trajillo from Legacy Christian and Ashley and Tara Nunez come and help out.  The kids are hungry for God’s word and to learn more about whom He is and how He lives in their lives.  There have been many a time where Dwayne will plan a study and will say one thing and off they go on a whole different topic.  They all so come hungry for a good meal.  They are so thankful for the meal that we provide for them.  Each week they always want to know what we are having the following week. 

Dwayne and Aimee are slowly getting into the lives of not only the kids but the parents also.  We had a mom who was having a hard time and had just lost a baby.  We were able to bring her food and pray for her.  The other day we went to drop off the kids and they had written on the pavement “God” then under that was “Mr. Doowayne”.   The box that was around it lead to spot on the sidewalk that said “Mr. Doowayne’s paking spot!”  It was such a blessing to see that kind of love and that they know that when Mr. Dwayne is around God is the focus!!

Here are some pictures that we have taken over the past few months.  We are currently going through the book of Exodus.  One of the object lessons was to see if they were able to part the water.  We gave them tools that they could use to help them…  In the end they all came to the same conclusion that God is the only one who can do that!

Sparrow's Nest - June 9th

Our Saturday night studies are so much fun!  We love the creativity that the kids show week after week.  This week we had a contest for the best coloring.  Aasa and our new attendee, Manuel, won this week.  As you can see we studied about God's gifts to Joseph.
